Ring the Old Year Out....

Happy New Year's Eve everyone!
I can't believe 2011 is just about over already... We have just over 12 hours to go until 2012 rings in here in the Maritime Provinces and I'm doing my annual look back at the things that have changed within the last 12 months.
It never ceases to amaze me just how much can change within the short span of a year... Which is only the blink of an eye in the cosmos. This past year has certainly been interesting to say the least... Or it has been in my itty bitty corner of the universe anyway! LOL
This year saw a few changes in my real life... Hubby had lost his job but went full circle back to his old workplace in a different position, with his old boss and some other very familiar faces. Son graduated out of Grade Primary into Grade 1 with flying colors and he's improving day by day even with the occasional set back. I'm writing more and more and I feel ideas for Untitled #7 hitting me out of the blue, sometimes on a daily basis. My family hasn't grown this year other than seeing my youngest niece reach her first birthday... But that may change within the next few years if my sister decides to have one more child for me to love and spoil! We lost a couple of animal friends, notably our dog Sargent on November 29th and our Siamese cat Angel on June 1st, and our family also lost some beloved animal buddies. I spent the first anniversary of my beloved cat Birdie's passing in tears but have also been reassured she's fine from her visiting me occasionally. My brothers in law's band finally released new music after four years, and I love the album, as y'all know! I find myself growing and changing each and every single day, becoming more and more positive in my outlook on things and the more I put certain things further behind me, the better life gets.
Internet life saw me saying goodbye to some people I considered dear friends but I also made some new ones in the aftermath and also reconnected with some old friends whom I had lost contact with. I moved on from one place to another, finally finding my true online home in a place called Samgaran Sanctuary, which is run by my mentor P, a lovely lady who has not only been there as my writing mentor but a life mentor. She has helped me more times than I can count and I can't thank her enough for everything.
Internet life has also seen me go from someone I hated to someone I actually liked again. I had become so negative and nasty for a while that I didn't recognize myself... Normally I'm a very sunny, positive and happy person and shedding the nasty cocoon I had wrapped around myself was like being reborn again. I want to be the ray of sunshine in everyone's life, not the dark and nasty thing that sneaks up on them out of the blue.
Samgaran Sanctuary also saw a LOT of changes... As of November 27th, Sanctuary was upgraded from YaBB 2.2 to YaBB 2.5 software thanks to our Tech God, D. It was a LOT of work for him to do the upgrade considering how far things had come along since the last upgrade and all of his work is greatly appreciated by P, myself, the rest of our staff and all of our members. We had a few bugs/kinks to work out after the upgrade was completed but that's normal for any software being updated in my opinion! Now that things have finally settled down and a month later, things are working wonderfully and the forum looks fantastic! P and I are tickled that our little online home is looking and working even better than we had hoped! We still have to make copies of the different skins to be able to have all of the banners/backgrounds that Sleepy (my co moderator and our graphics design god) designed but that's minor compared to things that were happening right after the upgrade. P is very proud of her little forum, she has put a lot of blood, sweat and tears into it over the five years it's been in existence! I'm proud of it too and very happy for her that it's finally upgraded and we're seeing a lot of posts in there from a lot of people, not just Penth and myself!
Writing wise, I found myself getting some really good ideas for Untitled #7... Ideas that I probably would not have thought of a year ago due to different things going on in my life, both online and day to day. I've found ways to develop the characters more, make things more interesting and even develop some really unusual twists and subplots in that story. I have a feeling that when I'm FINALLY finished the darn thing, it will be the crown jewel of anything I've written, past or present. If it turns out even half as good as I hope it will, I'm sure it will be the story that sees me being published finally! I'm also getting ideas for Untitled #6... In fact, I am now taking out the more descriptions of things in that one and making it more "publishing friendly". As I had stated in one of my previous blogs here, I went beyond "pushing the envelope" in that one right into "not fit for human consumption". Oops!! *laughing* Well, as my mentor says "Less is more" and I'm now taking that point of view when I write. Some graphic scenes are okay but if one has too many of them, a story can get very boring in one heck of a hurry. One has to have a lot of the "plain vanilla" stuff in between the more graphic scenes to make a story work and be interesting after all! I plan on making both stories very interesting.. They are not as fast paced as RH is but I do hope that they will be good reading for romance readers out there on their own and that people will enjoy reading them as much as I enjoy writing them!
What are my resolutions for the new year you ask? For one, I plan on taking time off from the internet more to work on my stories when I can... Days that Hubby is working/away and Son is in school, I plan on being slaving away in MS Word with NO distractions other than the cats and my own need for COFFEE! I plan on taking more time off from being online to start walking daily (or every other day depending on the weather) and I'm going to eat healthier. I've been off of the caffeinated/sugared soda for almost 2 years now and have reached a plateau in the weight loss associated with it, so it's time to ramp things up and get moving so I can lose MORE weight. This coming year, I hope to become even more sunny, more positive and make everyone sick with my "Pollyanna" attitude... No more drama or BS for this girl, I've had enough of it to last me twenty lifetimes, thank you! I have NOT vowed to quit smoking this year because I know I'm not ready to do that yet... Some other year I will try to quit again, I'm not ready to yet and me continuing to smoke saves lives. Seriously. *NYAH*
We now have only 11 1/2 hours left of 2011 here in Nova Scotia and I'm now looking forward instead of behind... To a shiny new year with a brand new outlook on things, more new material added to Untitled #7 (and possibly #6), the rewrite of RH being completed, Son's leaps and jumps in his development, more fun and activity in Sanctuary and walking away from things that will drag me and my friends/family down. Life is too short for drama and BS after all! *winks*
So as the new year quickly approaches, I wish you all out there the absolute best in life... Be good to yourself, don't forget to be kind to others and most of all, have fun!
Have a wonderful, fun and safe new year's celebration everyone! I'll be back in 2012, on this blog, as my WordPress blog will be mostly retired as of midnight AST tonight.
Regards and love,

Holiday Zaniness...

It's only the 20th of December and I feel like I've been dragged through a knothole... Yet the holidays have barely started here at my house!
This past week was nothing but chaos! We are almost finished our gift shopping yet we're only getting started on the grocery end of things. I don't have a blasted thing wrapped yet either! I see a LONG to do list in front of me right now and it seems that each time I get something knocked off of it, twenty more things appear on it.
At least some things are done... The tree is up, we've decided what we're having for a holiday dinner and we're hoping for a quiet day at home... With plenty of phone calls from family and friends that is!
This year, I'm making chicken at Hubby's request with the usual fixings, and cheesecake for dessert instead of pies for something different. I know cheesecake is not the most traditional holiday dessert but what the heck, I find it a LOT easier to make than pie! I'm going to have cherry pie filling handy too, for anyone who wants some of that and possibly some whipped cream for their cheesecake (read: ME!). I'm going to be making a triple batch of chocolate chip cookies and hopefully some other goodies for the holidays between wrapping gifts, cleaning things up (Son likes to think his toys belong ALL over the house!) and organizing everything.
Yesterday was interesting... We had traveled to Halifax/Dartmouth to get some gifts because we couldn't find the right gift for some people on our list here in our area. It was NUTS and although I hated being in a VERY crowded MMM (one of the largest shopping centres in Eastern Canada), it was worth the trip...And walking probably upwards of three miles around the stores and forcing myself NOT to panic in the crowds! We got Son a few things we know he will like, I got several books I wanted and we also had fun together as a family. I'd love to go shopping there again, just NOT during the holiday season, that's all!
I'm planning on doing some of the wrapping tonight, if not the majority of it. I just hope I have enough wrapping paper and tape... Some of the stuff we got people is rather "large"! It's all good stuff, and I hope everyone likes their gifts!
It's time to get back into preparations... Much as I hate to get up off my rear end, but it's all necessary I guess...
Have a great Tuesday everyone and Happy Hanukkah to everyone who celebrates it!

Quick Update!

So today was somewhat productive in the writing department. I did get some work done on Untitled #7, but it was mostly "plain vanilla" conversational parts that I had been hoping to expand at some point. I did manage to get most of the build up to a part of the MMG file finished and I've been getting ideas for more of that section.
The MMG file will probably take up about 1/3 of the entire manuscript. It is a HUGE part of the story and there is a lot of development from the leading lady's end in that particular part.
I am trying to decide whether or not to break the story up into parts... Like have a "Beginning", "Middle" and "Ending", all with different names of course. *wink* The MMG file would probably be the "Middle" part while the rest of it would "sandwich" said part.
Most of the stuff I have written up so far that doesn't involve that particular file is the "before" part, which introduces the main characters and sets things up for the MMG file, which in turn sets things up for the ending part.
This story isn't even 1/4 of the way written so far and even though it has a lot into it, it has to be refined, spliced together, more filling/vanilla between the "steamy" stuff and I have to get more ideas for it. I know how things will go from point a to z in the story, it's finding my way to every point along the way between the start and finish, that's all.
Sometimes being a writer is a pain in the...*foot*. Literally. Don't get me wrong, I love writing and my dream is to be a published writer eventually but there are some days when I just want to take the computer's word processor and biff it into Halifax Harbor!! LOL I've ripped my hair out more times over this story than I can count and have thought about 86ing the idea for this one altogether by times but then I'll get another idea for it and BAM, I'm happy with it again.
I guess I'll just keep plugging along until I either finish it and get it published or the darn thing KILLS ME!! LOL
Have a great Wednesday everyone and if you're a CSI fan like I am, there is a NEW episode on tonight!

Veridian's Writing, Update: The Family Friendly Part of My Writings Part 1

Today was productive writing wise.
I decided I was going to get some new material added to Untitled #7, come heck or high water and even if it killed me!
The MMG file was nagging at me to have more added to it the last few days so I opened it, reread what I had written and decided it was okay at this time and got to work.
What I was working on was a part that was earlier on in the file than the part I had written up on November 16th. This is all plain "vanilla" parts, it's all stuff my son could read and my mother would NOT shoot me for writing. I haven't done a word count on it but there is quite a bit of conversation into that particular part so it's probably not as high as the last section I wrote was word count wise... But I did cover a lot of ground with this section at least. I have the one character's profession tentatively chosen and I'm getting more and more ideas on exactly how I want things to progress in the build up to the part I had written a couple of weeks ago. I had already known the general idea of how things were supposed to go but not in detail.
I find my main problems with Untitled #7 is writing up the connectors between the key scenes of the story. Say the part where the leading man and leading lady start to get to know one another and become friends before they start seeing each other. Chapter 2 had started out as a lot of long, dragged out paragraphs just describing how things progressed instead of actually "showing" scenes where they actually talked or met up by accident... Then it ended with their first kiss and the aftermath of said kiss was the start of Chapter 3. It was okay the day I wrote it but a few days later, while I was editing it, I felt as if it wasn't "enough" for how I wanted to portray things. I wanted more detail, so after talking to my mentor P about it, I decided to take her advice and use what I had already written up as the "foundation" of the events that lead up to their first kiss. I had also written up a scene that is a HUGE teaser by this time and I changed the setting for what actually happens just before that particular turning point in the story. It's looking a lot better and although that part of the Main Manuscript file is not done by a long shot, it's on its way at least!
I had the same problem today with the part of the MMG file that was bugging me. I had to add MORE conversational parts in, describe things in more detail and get down to the nitty gritty of how the leading lady meets this particular person who becomes very important to her. I had started writing up the hows and such a few months ago but after reading it again a few days later, I 86'ed that idea and decided to do a complete rewrite on how they meet. So far that idea is working and now I am trying to work things around them getting to know one another. That part IS coming along too but by the time I had really gotten into writing, it was time to go meet my son's bus and I can't write when Son is around.
Anyway, things are coming along in that story, slowly but surely. I'm hoping to get more writing time in next week if my husband works any day shifts while Son is in school. That's the best time for me to write because I am alone with only the cats to distract me (we lost the dog on November 29th to a heart attack) and if I can't write on those days, it is my own fault!
I will update everyone here on this blog as things progress. I will continue to post some things on my WordPress blog but for my writings and other PG stuff that interests me (including the occasional PG rated rant about the word processor!), this is now my main blog.
Have a great Wednesday night everyone! Only two more days to go until the weekend is here!

"Write and Learn": Editing and 86ing...

You live, you learn. And boy did I learn a lesson the other night about certain things... Like which is acceptable for publishing and what isn't.
My mentor P is on the verge of being published via an online site, also known as epublishing. She has waited a VERY long time for this and I know she is beyond ready to become a published author finally!
I had been considering epublishing some of my own work when things were either finished or rewritten, to get my own feet wet in the industry so to speak. BUT after doing some research, I've discovered that my own style of writing isn't exactly what most online publishing companies or even traditional publishers are looking for. Some allow some amount of erotica, others do not allow any at all. If I want to be epublished, I will have to cut out a lot of the more "descriptive" scenes and that will change how the story goes and cut more out that I want to. I may wind up writing a completely new, less "descriptive" and extremely toned down story/novella just for epublishing and getting my feet wet in the industry unless I can find an epublisher who will not mind my style of writing. Which is something I was hoping I wouldn't have to do. I'm nowhere near close to being published at this time so hopefully at least one epublisher who doesn't mind pretty descriptive scenes will come along in the meantime and actually allow me to publish on their site.
You see, some of the scenes in all three stories are classed as "graphic", some are more graphic than one would see in a regular mainstream romance novel. One scene in RH does push the envelope a little bit, which is what I'm hoping to do with all of the stories somewhat to varying degrees. I've gotten good feedback about that particular scene from certain special and trusted friends who have read it. "Hot!" was mostly what I got back from said people.
Untitled #7 will be a tad more toned down but that story is more about a woman's journey in life than romance. Or that's what I'm HOPING it will turn out to be in the end, it's less than 1/4 written at the moment! There are some pretty "descriptive" scenes in it but nothing really over the top or going beyond what is seen in an everyday, mainstream romance novel.
HOWEVER....
Pushing the envelope is one thing, smashing the line between "normal/mainstream" and "not fit for human consumption" is another!
Untitled #6 pushes the envelope in many of its scenes so far... And in one case, literally pushed it so far, it fell over a cliff, crashed, blew up and the remnants burned to nothing but dusty ash.
I had to literally remove several paragraphs of the most graphic, out of this world stuff I had written several years ago, not long after I started working on UT #6. It seemed like it was the right thing to have in that story at the time BUT after reading it again to edit it several years later, I'm thinking it's going waaaaaaaaay too far and have decided to "86" the more graphic descriptions in that particular spot. You, the reader, will know it did happen but it won't be there in Full. GORY. IN YOUR FACE. DETAIL.
I had written it in a way that did allow a quick "chop" just in case I decided to remove it later on. I'm glad I did it that way because fixing that part of it took me less than 5 minutes to do. All I had to do was cut out the most graphic stuff, add in a few words to the next paragraph and go from there. You still know what happens and its aftermath but not exactly how things went down.
I feel a little sheepish knowing I HAD written something like that but as my mentor P says, "You write, you learn." She is so right on that! After having her give me advice about writing COUNTLESS times, (which I thank her for!) I am going to do what she's suggesting and with that particular scene especially, go the "less is more" route. Sometimes one doesn't need a fully described scene to get the point across, especially with the love scenes part of things!
I'm going to be working on things today but not sure which story I'll be tackling just yet. The rewrite for RH is starting to bug me but I have several ideas for Untitled #7 that are slapping me upside of the head. I'll update if anything happens here. Things will be described in more detail on my "adult rated blog" for anyone who knows where that is. I'm not giving out the link here either, that url is only for very special and trusted people and it is under a completely different name anyway.
Have a great Wednesday everyone and if you're a CSI addict like I am, there IS a new episode on this evening!

"Signs of Life"

Fans of the Nova Scotian band, Whom Gods Destroy, are finally getting new music from their favorite up and coming old school heavy metal band.

“Signs of Life”, a 7 track CD featuring original music was released in late November of 2011. I was lucky enough to get a copy of their latest work.

To be blunt, this is a dream CD for any head banging, heavy metal loving people out there. All of the seven tracks kick you in the ass from the first note to the last. One does not want to stop head banging or fist pumping long after the final notes of the songs fade away into oblivion.

Tracks include the fast paced “Devil on Your Shoulder”, the more melodic sounds of “The Traveler”, the 10 minute old school metal “Whom Gods Destroy”, and the title track, “Signs of Life”.

Formed in Lunenburg County, Nova Scotia in 2005, this power trio consists of vocalist/drummer Adam Bondarenko, guitarist Tim Gaudet and bassist Eli Bondarenko. Their influences include Iron Maiden, Dio, Black Sabbath, Kiss, Judas Priest and Alice Cooper. They released their 4 track demo/debut CD “Demo” in 2007. Their sound is old school heavy metal, which appeals to a lot of people from around the world and all walks of life. They have developed a fan base from several countries around the world, including their home and native land of Canada.

I highly recommend “Signs of Life” and any other album released by Whom Gods Destroy to all fans of any kind of heavy metal out there. The guitar riffs, the percussion and the bass mixed with the classical metal stylings of Adam Bondarenko’s lyrics make this particular band THE up and coming heavy metal band to watch out for in the future in my opinion.

Of course, you don’t have to take my word for it, you can check them out yourself…You can see the Promo Video for “Signs Of Life” on You Tube, check out their MySpace page, and see their Lyrics Archive on Blogger if you want to learn more about this hot up and coming metal band.
