Another Launch Day Ahead!

As y'all know, my official Facebook author's page and profile were launched on August 19, 2013. So far, the reception has been good despite some quarters not liking the fact that yes, I HAVE finished one double length novel and am working on finishing its sequel, and am also on the way to getting published in some form or another.

So... Another launch day is ahead... Yes, I'm doing another official launch. It's something I've been thinking about for a while, to create buzz and get my pen name and get my books out there more. What it is, I'm not saying until Monday September 2, 2013, which is the day that it will be announced/launched to the rest of the world. It's a project I've put a lot of blood, sweat and tears into and the select few who have seen it, loves it. Hubby put his stamp of approval on it as well, and I know when he does that, he likes it! I'm very excited and tickled about it and hope everyone else likes it as much as my Writing Excerpts gang in Facebook. I'd like to thank everyone who has checked it out, commented on it and sent me kind words about it! THANK YOU!

As for the actual writing projects...

My first book, "No Regrets" hasn't been sent out yet. I'm still working on getting the packages ready for publishers and hope to get it sent out before the first year anniversary of me finishing its first draft... October 19, 2012. It's hard to believe that over ten months have passed since I last typed in "THE END" on the last page of that manuscript! It's gone through a lot of changes in the months since then... At least three more drafts, lots of editing, additions and 86ing, and so much more, but it's finally close to being "perfect" even with my insanely high standards.

Book 2 is progressing slowly but surely. I still haven't closed the gap between where I am in the main manuscript and the gem my beloved friend and fellow author Sandra shot at me back in March. I'm hoping to get that closed very soon, but it's delicate work and I don't want to give TOO much away before the big "SAY WHAT?" that will happen at the end of her wonderful idea! I already know how the grand finale will go, and what will be in the epilogue, so it's only a matter of weaving everything together in the right configuration before Draft 1 of Book 2 is finished and I can finally say goodbye to the wonderful characters of both books... Yes, some characters from Book 1 are in Book 2, although they are a little older and have adapted quite well to their new lives and new roles... Hint! *wink* I'm going to miss all of them dearly when the time comes to write "THE END" in Book 2's main manuscript file, but at least I know their stories will be out there and I hope people will love them as much as I do.

I am going to toss in again that whoever said writing is the "hard part" of being an author needs their blessed head examined...

Don't forget, MONDAY SEPTEMBER 2, 2013 will see me launching yet another great thing! Be there!

All the best and have a wonderful weekend everyone!

Benstock 2013: Local Music, Friends and Fun

Another weekend has gone by and I finally got out of the house again...
This weekend, a local music festival called "Benstock" was going on and this year, I was able to attend it. It features local bands of all genres and generally runs from Friday afternoon until Sunday morning.

Of course, I wanted to see local melodic/classic metal band Whom Gods Destroy play their set. They had originally been slated to play the 7 p.m. slot on Friday night but had their time changed to 10 p.m. on Saturday.

The drummer/lead singer's girlfriend and I are very close so we decided to go to the festival together, to see the guys rock the place. We arrived a little before nine and the guys were already up on stage, singing "Sea of Tears" from their 2007 Demo album. I quickly dug out my camera and filmed most of that song... I don't have it on YouTube right now, due to limited MB of usage for month on my high speed, but others got the entire performance in two installments on video...

My video... "Sea of Tears" by Whom Gods Destroy...

Unfortunately we got there JUST as the guys were wrapping up their set so we missed most of it! *SIGH* I'm glad that we got there for part of it at least, and that the guitarist's girlfriend did film the entire set. So we did get to see it after all, but in a roundabout way.

Classic metal band, Whom Gods Destroy - Tim Gaudet (guitars/backup vocals), Adam Bondarenko (drums/vocals), and Eli Bondarenko (bass) - at the end of their set at Benstock 2013.

We stuck around and hung out with the guys as they packed up their equipment and heard music from other awesome local bands in the area. This area is filled with talent - the bands that were playing while we were still there were awesome and I hope to see them again next year! I did meet the gentleman who started the festival last year, Ben, and he's a really nice guy who like me, loves music.

After everything was packed away and we chatted with some of our friends, we decided to hang out at the singer's girlfriend's house for a while. Of course, if you get me and the guys together in one spot, it goes from silly to plain out of this world ridiculous. I do have a few videos of the zaniness up in my personal Facebook profile but I won't show them here. This blog is PG13 rated and some of the zaniness that happened after the show is FAR from PG13 rated... It's more like R or X rated! *laughs*

Anyway I had a blast with the gang and was happy to see some old friends I haven't seen in ages... I was glad to be able to attend and cheer on one of my favorite bands of all time... Even if it was only for a few minutes! I hope to get to Benstock again next year and with a little luck, I'll be able to tell everyone I'm going to be published somehow, sometime after the festival...

Thank you to Ben H for creating and hosting this wonderful event! Ben, YOU ROCK!

I hope y'all had a great weekend. We have less than 2 weeks to go until school starts, which means I hope to be back into the writing a lot more and hopefully can get my first book, "No Regrets" ready and sent out to publishers very soon.

Peace and rock on everyone!

Launch Day!

Today has been a great day...

It was the official launch day of my Author's page and updated author's profile, along with updating the look of my blog. Everything went smoothly and it looks great!

My author's page now has a banner with a photo (taken by me) of the shoreline in my area, and my theme, "Love is the music of the heart..." on it. It looks wonderful and I'm tickled about the new look!

The updated profile (owner of the page) has a banner using the same picture, but with a little surprise on it... A quote from Book 1!

As all of you can see, the blog is updated with a new scheme too... The photo I have as a background is the sky portion of the photo I used for the banners.

Everything looks great. I'm happy how it all falls into line and everything has the same theme... Sky and sea represent endless possibilities and that's what I'm hoping to show with the new look everywhere.

I also got a little writing done today... Hubby took Son shopping with him so I had some quiet time (first in a couple of weeks!) and I dove back into it. I did take out a scene in Chapter 29 that was dragging the story down and got back to the build up of the gem that Sandra shot at me back in March. I haven't done the initial edit yet (things have been crazy in Facebook, I'm getting notifications galore in both profiles!) but hope to get to it when things settle down here. What I wrote today reveals a little more to the mystery that the leading lady is trying to unravel... That's all I'm saying! I'm doing my best to only give away bits and pieces very slowly, but not too slowly! I don't want to bore the reader after all, but at the same time, I don't want to give it all away at once. The big "WOW!" will come during the gem idea and that won't be happening for a few more chapters at least!

It's been an awesome day and I'm flying high....

I'd like to thank everyone who has messaged me, commented on my posts, liked my posts and photos, etc and gave me love and support during the official launch of my Facebook author's page and profile today... I'm so blessed to have such wonderful family, friends and fans! Love you all!

(And thank you everyone who sent me birthday wishes! Y'all rock!)

Have a wonderful week everyone!

Getting Excited!

So... What has me all excited, you ask?

Well, it's something I've been considering for a while and I've finally made the decision to do it, along with a "launch date".

A couple of years ago, I started a second profile in Facebook so I had a place to hang out without being reminded of some things I went through a couple of years back and for a while, it worked. But in the last year, I've been going back to my original profile (which was started in 2007 when I joined FB) because one of my best friends is on that list and not the new one... Which meant the new profile was sitting, gathering dust and nothing was happening in it at all.

I was talking with a friend of mine that I met via one of my forums and said something about how I was thinking about putting my original/pink rose profile as "owner" of my FB author's page. She told me that whoever owns a page like that should have the profile name match the pen name (or something like that, can't remember the exact wording!), and that's what got me thinking. (This lady always makes me think, she's very intelligent as well as fun, and honest in her opinion on something!) So the decision to turn what was my "white rose" profile (so named because I have a white wild rose as the profile picture) into my author's public profile was born.

I made the announcement that on August 19th, that profile will be completely switched over and I got down to work. I cleaned out a lot of the "likes" on that page that may be considered "inappropriate" for a soon to be public figure, hid a lot of the statuses (or deleted them) that were NOT relevant to my writing and took down a lot of stuff that I do not want the general public seeing. Things like my concert reviews and photos are still up for all friends and the public to see but certain things like photos of myself and the inside of my house, etc are for certain eyes only, as who my family members are.

For the most part, things on that profile will be PUBLIC and people will be warned about it. If anyone wants to remove that profile from their list due to security reasons, I won't be insulted and fully understand. However, if anyone is only going to hang around looking for "dirt", they have another thing coming because any "dirt" I have will only be shown to people on the pink rose profile and it's only to a very select few that I trust fully. I know better than to air any dirty laundry publicly these days. *wink!* I learned that lesson long ago! Things like writing updates, photos of any delicious hardware I get for my computer, observations about writing, and general photos of the province will be shared to all of the friends on that list and sometimes publicly.

A banner with an original photo (taken by ME) and a quote from Book 1 has been designed, tested and redone (the first one had part of the text hidden by the profile photo), a profile photo has been updated, the bio, etc has been written and everything is now waiting for the big changeover and reveal that will happen this coming Monday. As for the quote itself, I wanted something from Book 1 on it and had several ideas but wanted to bounce them off of a few trusted people. Everyone liked one of them because it was short, sweet, to the point and it "stuck" with you. So that's the one I'm going with for now. I do have another quote in mind for a banner but that won't be used for a while, probably after I'm published. It's another one like the one I'll be using - short, sweet, to the point and will "stick" with everyone.

My blog may go through an "upgrade" as well, to match the theme of my author's profile and page. My new blog link is the same as my author's page (loveisthemusicoftheheart). It will take a lot of work to do but it CAN be done. It's not like this will be the first time I designed a look for a blog or a page after all! That won't happen until after the FB profile and page are updated though. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE the red roses theme I currently have but they're more of a theme that my beloved mentor would use. Pink roses are more my thing, and since I've chosen another theme altogether for my page and profile, I think I'll be going with that on here as well. It's something that reflects myself, the province and something in the book believe it or not.

What it is, I'm not saying. It's only four days to go until the big launch/reveal so I think all of us can wait that long! The link to my author's page in FB is in the links area here for anyone who wants a peek at it. It's not updated with the new look yet, but it will be sometime on Monday! Watch for it everyone!

I'm very excited... I've been waiting for this for a very long time and can't believe this is finally happening!

(Before anyone asks, NO I am not published yet and haven't sent Book 1 out yet. It's still in the final stages of getting ready for publishers!)

Before I forget, my birthday is coming up and between my wonderful mother, husband and son, I got my birthday present a little early this year.... It's an external hard drive with a 1TB (terabyte) capacity. I'm floating on air, I LOVE IT! I have wanted one for ages because I am meticulous about backing up my writing almost every time I do an edit or add new material to my books and was going through a TONNE of memory sticks. I'd have an 8GB one filled within three months during a great writing streak, which means I was spending a lot of money in memory sticks alone. Yeah, the backup drive wasn't cheap but in the long run, it will be a lot cheaper than getting a couple of 64GB sticks (make that something like FIFTEEN of them!) and I'll have more room in the desk drawers (I have something like six memory sticks now, all are 8GB with a 16GB one tossed in) and everything will be in ONE place. I have things set up on the external drive so I can do a copy/paste of each time I work on the books to back them up, even though it came with software to back up the ENTIRE drive if I wanted to. If I did that, it would be filled up within a couple of months... I'll back things up when/IF needed otherwise, I'm more concerned about my books/manuscripts being backed up because I'm always working on them in some fashion! It's going to save me a lot of time and heartbreak, because I'll have all of it in ONE place instead of spread out over a zillion memory sticks! hehehehehe... Finally!

Have a lovely week everyone!

Summer Writing Time 2013, Part 2!

Almost another month has passed and although things are going slowly, there has been some progression in Book 2...

The last time I posted an update, I was at the end of Chapter 27 and ready to dive into Chapter 28. I haven't had a lot of time to write the last few weeks because of my husband's crazy schedule at work (he can work either day shift or evening shift) and the fact that I've been going nuts working on other things in the meantime.

I know, I'm supposed to be reading and taking a break from my own work, but a few things have popped up that got me thinking and I'm now back to working on getting Book 1/NR (formerly Untitled #7) ready for publishers. I'm currently working on a package for a publisher I will not name and will be sending it out when it's ready and I think NR/Book 1 is the best it will be for a publisher. Those who matter already know which publisher, and only they will know when it goes out and if I get rejected or not. I don't talk about that publicly, I'm scared I'll jinx myself otherwise! I have been going through the book to make sure everything is kosher but am catching a few things like verb tense errors and other things. I've also changed a few things to line up more with Book 2 (just a couple of things so the reader isnt' taken aback when they read Book 2!) and it's back into a "perk" cycle while I work on other things related to it.

Book 2 is still coming along, slowly but surely. I am now in the middle of Chapter 29 and some things will be answered for the leading lady but more questions will pop up at the same time... This story is turning out to be a LOT more complicated and twisted than Book 1 did and I do hope I can get it written just right! There are days I have to double check my notes file or other parts of the manuscript to make sure I have everything down right and I'm not giving too much away too soon.

I wonder if other authors, besides myself and my mentor, have that problem...

Anyway, even with a scene that may not make the final cut, Chapter 29's foundation looks pretty solid so far and over time, will be expanded, tweaked, etc.

Whoever said the writing is the "hard part" of being an author needs their head examined in my opinion......

I hope everyone is having a wonderful summer and for those who are returning to school during the month of August, I hope your school year goes great! Schools here do not start for another four weeks and we're starting to gear up for Son to enter Grade 3 already... We're starting the back to school shopping NOW so we're not scrambling to get things three days before he goes back!

I hope to get back into things full time again once school starts in a few weeks. I'm doing my best to keep myself into the story and NOT chomp on the monitor so much... Being busy with getting Book 1/NR ready for publishers is helping and I'm glad I have that to keep me from going crazy. Last year, I didn't have anything like that to keep my mind off of things and I'd be back to losing my bloody mind or ripping the hair out if I didn't have a zillion things to do this year!

Have a great week everyone! I'll post another update after more happens.
